As a mum, I've always dreamed of running my own business, so when I opened a boutique selling handmade jewellery, I was over the moon. However, things got tough when the economy took a nosedive, and I struggled to keep the business afloat while also supporting my family.
The stress was taking a toll on me and our family life. I worked long hours, but I refused to give up. I found new ways to bring in customers and took on a part-time job to make ends meet. Gradually, things turned around, and my business picked up. It wasn't a walk in the park, but I felt proud of what I had accomplished.
To make it happen, I took some steps:
Stayed positive and determined: Although I faced many challenges and setbacks, I didn't lose hope. I stayed positive and determined, focusing on finding solutions to problems and taking action to move forward.
Set priorities: I made a list of my priorities, both for my business and my family, and made sure to allocate time and energy to each of them.
Established a schedule: I created a schedule that allowed me to dedicate time to my business during the day but also ensured that I was available for my family in the evenings.
Delegated tasks: Whenever I needed help, such as running errands or preparing meals, I delegated tasks to my husband and daughter.
Took breaks: I made sure to take breaks throughout the day to recharge and spend time with my family, even if it was only for a few minutes.
Maintained open communication: I spoke openly with my family about my schedule and the demands of my business, and we worked together to find ways to support each other.
It wasn't always easy, but finding a balance between work and family was crucial to me, I did my best to make it work and I had help from my community.
